DESCRIPTION:Drug and alcohol use has become an increasing issue in the workplace\, especially given the prevalence of prescribed marijuana for medicinal reasons. How do you deal with an employee in a safety-sensitive role who has a medical marijuana licence? Are they still allowed to perform their safety sensitive job? If an employee with a licence says they need to use their marijuana at the workplace\, how is this addressed? Are employees with medical marijuana licences exempt from drug testing? \nTopics covered:\n•         Drug and Alcohol Policies\n•         Testing for Drug and Alcohol Use\n•         Consequences for Testing Positive\n•         Pre-employment Situations\n•         Impaired at Work Situations\n•         Accommodation requirements for workers with drug and or alcohol addiction\n•         Suggested wording on Medical Marijuana to update company policies \n\nPresenter: Melanie Vipond\, B.A.H.\, LL.B.\nMelanie Vipondfocuses her practice on labour and employment law\, human rights\, privacy and administrative law. She advises both private and public sector employers on issues relating to unionization\, collective agreement negotiation\, disability and harassment\, workers compensation as well as general employment law issues\, including wrongful dismissals and employment contract negotiation. She provides training on those issues to the employer community. She has appeared before all levels of court\, including the Supreme Court of Canada\, as well as the BC Labour Relations Board\, arbitration boards\, human rights tribunals\, and other administrative tribunals. She is an adjunct professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of British Columbia (UBC) and teaches in the areas of labour\, employment\, human rights and privacy law. She has also lectured as a guest speaker in those areas at Stanford Law School and UBC Law School\, and is a frequent speaker at conferences and seminars.\n\n  Register Now!
