DESCRIPTION:This program is designed for front-line and management staff to understand the effect that trauma has on employees. The participants will learn how to effectively manage critical incidents and protect the emotional health and safety of their employees or fellow workers. It will also allow for a strong understanding of how past trauma may cause workers to deal with situations with different responses. \nTopics covered: \n\nAcquire a basic understanding of trauma and critical incident stress\nUnderstanding reactions to trauma\nSigns and symptoms of trauma\nHealing options and supporting workers\nSelf-Care and building resilience\n\nInstructor: Jeffrey Cartwright’s background includes 25 years experience working as a paramedic\, firefighter and in the field of trauma response. He joined the New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services in August of 1995 after 3 years with BC Ambulance Service. He was promoted to qualified officer in 2009\, and has since been confirmed to the ranks of Lieutenant\, Captain and acting Battalion Chief. He joined the Critical Incident Stress Management team in 2000.  He has developed many initiatives for the team members by introducing them to the latest techniques and training.
