SUMMARY:Psychological First Aid (PFA) in the Workplace (Afternoon Session) - Kitimat
DESCRIPTION:Mental health issues affect many people in the workplace. Just as physical first aid is administered to an injured person before medical treatment can be obtained\, Psychological First Aid is given until appropriate treatment is found or until the situation is resolved. Whether the issues are stemming from the workplace or their personal lives\, these issues can impact the employee’s ability to be productive and safe on the job.\n\nThis 4-hour course helps participants with a personal understanding of the effects of stress\, loss\, trauma and grief on others\, with emphasis on self-care and personal protection. Participants will be introduced to a resiliency-building approach to emotional\, psychological\, and social wellbeing that teaches how to support themselves and others to cope with the effects of various types of stress.\n\nThey will also learn practical responses on how to handle employees that are struggling in ways that respect their dignity\, culture and abilities; when and how PFA can be implemented\, and how encourage individuals to be active participants in their own recovery.\n\nTopics covered:\n\n• Understanding Psychological First Aid: Look\, Listen\, Link\, Live\n• Supporting workers by normalizing reactions\n• Identify core strategies of PFA\n• Develop skills to carry off PFA\n• When to implement PFA\n\nWho should attend: This workshop is designed for supervisors and anyone in a leadership role.\n  \nInstructor: Jeffrey Cartwright’s background includes 25 years experience working as a paramedic\, firefighter and in the field of trauma response.
