SUMMARY:System Scaffold Competent Person Training - Richmond
DESCRIPTION:A system scaffolding structure is essentially a frame structure using a specialized modular connection and has evolved from the general principles of tube and clamp scaffolding.\n\nCanada Scaffold University’s SAIA approved Systems Scaffold course will provide demonstration and practice with the typical methods of constructing systems scaffolding\, including:\n\nIdentifying types and components of System Scaffold\nIdentify standard usage of System Scaffold\nHow System Scaffolds are erected using Code of Safe Practice\nIdentify and understand specialty usage of System Scaffold including Circular\, Cantilevered\, Enclosed and Hanging\nUnderstanding System Scaffold Tower building\nErect and dismantle a System Scaffold Tower using Code of Safe Practice\nIdentify scaffold configuration\nHands-on practical instruction in the scaffold yard\n\nThis course complies with CSA Z-797 “Code of Practice for Access Scaffolds”.\n\nParticipants who score 70% or higher on the Competent Person written exam and display competency building system scaffolding will receive a certificate of completion and wallet card from the SAIA Training Program\, certifying completion of Competent Person Training in the erection of system scaffolds.\n\n\nCertification: Participation in the practical component and passing a final exam is required to qualify for the 3-year SAIA Competent Person certification.\n\nWho should attend: Anyone working on scaffolds\, those who supervise work on and near scaffolds\, and those who supervise the erecting\, altering\, and dismantling of scaffolds.\n\nNo prerequisites required\n\nPlease note: All participants will be required wear a non-medical face-mask whilst in the classroom environment. Physical distancing will be maintained for the course duration\, however\, certain class exercises may involve participants and the instructor being physically closer than 6-feet. This is why participants and instructors are required to wear a non-medical face-mask. When strict physical distancing is not possible\, instructors will also ask all participants to sanitize their hands immediately before and after such exercises.\n\n\nInstructor: Kelly Clancy is the Construction Safety Officer at Canada Scaffold Supply. He started his career at Canada Scaffold in 1998 as a Foreman and has worked as a Scaffold Installer\, progressing to his current position. Kelly acquired his CSO Certification in 2018 and is focused on safety and compliance in scaffold installation. He manages the Scaffold Install crew as well as overseeing site safety plans\, and performing hazard and risk assessments.\n\nKelly received his Competent Person Training (System Scaffold) from the Scaffold & Access Industry Association. He also successfully completed the Train the Trainer Facilitator Skills Workshop at SAIA. SUMMARY:Building Code for Residential Builders - Abbotsford
DESCRIPTION:Participants will learn how to read\, interpret and use the BC Building Code (2018). The course is specifically targeted for constructors of small buildings and residential construction in order to allow them to discuss with confidence issues brought up by inspectors\, plan checkers and/or consultants. \nAt the end of the course participants will be able to: \n\nHave a working knowledge of the BC Building Code (2018) and be able to reference relevant sections quickly in their day-to-day dealings with inspectors\, plan checkers and/or consultants;\nUnderstand the differences in construction where Part 9 of the Code is used for Small Buildings compared to Part 3-8 for larger and more complex building systems;\n\n\nUnderstand how various Building Codes (National\, Provincial and Local) and Bylaws operate in various jurisdictions;\nUnderstand the 38 sections within Part 9 of the Code and their application within residential construction;\nUnderstand where Part 10 applies to residential construction projects;\nRecognize the shortcomings of the Code and understand how to deal with multiple interpretations.\n\nAudience: Ideal for those who have little or no background in using the BC Building Code (2018) and for those wanting an update regarding changes from the previous BC Building Code (2012). \n\nInstructor: Chad Brechin\, AScT. Chad is a “Georgie” award winning designer and has been designing commercial\, industrial and high end residential construction projects for over thirty years. He received his AScT in Building Science at BCIT and graduated with honours and an award resulting from a design competition.
