SUMMARY:Incident Investigations - Burnaby
DESCRIPTION:WorkSafeBC’s amendment to Bill 9 includes two major changes to the requirements for employer incident investigations. First\, section 175 of the Act has been amended to require an employer to undertake a preliminary investigation within 48 hours of the incident. Second\, section 176 of the Act is amended to require an employer to submit a full investigation report to WorkSafeBC within 30 days of an incident. \nThis course is designed to provide participants the required knowledge to understand the principle of incident investigations and the methods used to ensure an adequate investigation is completed. At the end of the session participants will have an understanding of the requirements for investigating incidents\, the tools required to undertake an adequate investigation\, methods involved in successful interviews\, identifying incident causes and completing incident reports. \n\nThe program uses a classroom component with video and a multimedia PowerPoint presentation during the session. Participants will take part in a simulated investigation with witnesses to interview\, a scene to evaluate and documentation to complete. But you can take a planned and thoughtful approach to having difficult conversations about workplace issues including employee performance\, corrective actions and letting people go. \nIn this session you will learn: \n\nWhy you should stop avoiding difficult discussions at work\nHow to prepare yourself for a difficult conversation\nHow\, when and where to have the conversation\nWhat to do after the discussion\n\nPresenter: Christian Codrington\, CPHR \nChristian has held senior management roles with a number of significant employers throughout his career prior to starting Forum HCM. In his current engagement\, Christian is building the human resource function at the Industry Training Authority. This has included updating and implementing a revised compensation framework\, marketing and updating the benefits plan and developing a performance management system.\n\nPrior to this role and while at the Chartered Professional in Human Resources – BC (CPHR)\, he led teams responsible for professional development\, metrics\, and the office of the registrar for the CHRP designation. Christian was also responsible for government relations\, starting the association down its path to become a self-regulated profession.\n\nBefore CPHR\, Christian was with Best Buy Canada\, leading a human resource team. DESCRIPTION:Risk is a key feature of every construction project. DESCRIPTION:This session is designed to provide participants the required knowledge to understand the principle of hazard recognition and control as well as the methods used to ensure hazards are identified and adequately addressed in the workplace. At the end of the session participants will have an understanding of the requirements for identifying hazards\, the tools required to assess the identified hazards and score them by priority\, and methods to take the information gathered and develop Safe Work Procedures to mitigate the hazards. Participants will take part in reviewing a number of hazard scenarios as well as developing procedures to mitigate the identified hazards.\n\nTopics covered:\n\nThe regulatory requirements to identify and assess hazards.\nWho may do a hazard assessment?\nHow to gather information regarding the hazards of a process?\nHow to conduct interviews with persons familiar with the process being assessed?\nDeveloping appropriate conclusions and mitigating factors.\nCompleting the Hazard Assessment Form and develop Safe Work Procedures.\n\nInstructor: Terry Duncan is an independent safety specialist with over 30 years of experience in occupational safety. Past roles include safety coordinator for Dominion Bridge of Western Canada\, and safety coordinator/industrial engineer for Freightliner Canada. Terry was also directly involved in the development of the City of Vancouver’s TSC/CSO training program.
