DESCRIPTION:Section 20.112 of the OHS Regulation was amended to require additional information during hazardous materials surveys. The upcoming breakfast session will provide an opportunity to learn more about these changes and how they can impact your scope of work under renovation and demolition projects involving these materials. \nThe process of sampling building materials to test for hazardous substances may seem straight forward\, but it is often done incorrectly producing misleading or false results. This session will also provide a refresher on regulatory sampling requirements for submitting suspect bulk materials to a laboratory for determination of asbestos content. The presentation will also include a limited discussion of lead and silica bulk sampling protocols\, and will emphasize the importance of appropriate sample collection\, handling and shipping to a laboratory including selection of a laboratory and sampling documentation. \nUnderstanding the correct sampling and analytical methods is essential to a successful hazmat assessment outcome prior to renovation or demolition activities. The significance of adequate training and experience for the person carrying out the hazardous material sampling/survey will also be discussed. In summary\, this session will provide you with the fundamentals of interpreting hazardous material surveys and their associated analytical reports. \nPresenter: Michel J. Crépeau is Technical Operations Manager with Total Safety Services Inc. in Burnaby\, BC. He has over 30 years of local\, national and international experience in occupational hygiene/health & safety and environment\, and has managed the development\, implementation and performance of a wide variety of EHS programs.
