Course Overview

Asphalt is a composite material that is used worldwide for road building, infrastructure and recreation construction. Asphalt is manufactured at a plant, transported at very high temperatures and becomes a hard surface when cooled. The production of asphalt is a hazardous operation that involves heavy mobile equipment, large plant machinery and many types of specialized work, including working with conveyors, working at heights and confined space work. This course educates the learner on the many hazards associated with asphalt plants and how asphalt can be produced safely. It discusses the material composition of asphalt, the different types of plants, the production process, as well as controls and emergency procedures to keep the learner and others safe on site.
