RoadReadyBC – Basework
Basework is the stage of construction that creates a solid foundation or “base” of aggregate before concrete or asphalt is laid to ensure stability of the structure. This course provides instruction on the five critical hazards of basework – line of fire hazards, mobile equipment hazards, utility hazards, environmental hazards, ergonomic hazards, and the controls for these hazards.
The various types of equipment used on site are identified and the important concepts of equipment swing radius and blind spots are discussed. Safety requirements for loading, hauling and dumping gravel from the perspective of the loader operator, truck driver and dump person are addressed, as well as controls for possible hazards present on the work site during placing and compacting the base.
