Course Overview

A crushing and washing plant crushes rock into gravel and sand or “aggregate”  to be used in various applications such as concrete and asphalt production, road building, construction and landscaping. Depending on the final use of the product, some aggregate will be washed at the plant and other left unwashed. The production of aggregate involves heavy mobile equipment, large plant machinery, and exposure to hazardous materials including silica dust. This course identifies the many safety concerns associated with a crushing and washing plant and the safe working procedures that the learner should be aware of.

A thorough review of the process and machinery involved to produce aggregate from raw pit to loading finished product is discussed and the hazards involved in this work.
